Methotrexate and humira

Mon, May 14, 2018 7:28 PM

My wife takes methotrexate with humira. From what we understand methotrexate prevents the body from forming antibodies to humira. Is this correct?
She also took methotrexate with infliximab but, after about a year, antibodies against infliximab still formed.
Should she increase the dose of methotraxate so it is more effective with humira than it was with infliximab?
Any advice on this issue would be appreciated.
Thank you

You are correct. That is the purpose of methotrexate in conjunction with a biologic. They help to suppress the antibodies but it doesn't always work, and eventually the antibodies can win regardless of the dose, but at the very least it helps buy you time. It is possible that a higher dose can help. Make sure you bring this up with your wife's doctor.

Galen, I am sorry to hear about your wife having to take additional medication. After reading about all the other cases with different types of medication, I suspect that they will not work.
I would like to offer you an alternative treatment, which simply involves not using the Microwave to warm/cook any foods or liquids. I have stopped using the Microwave for 8 months and my symptoms are reducing/disappearing. I have not had a flare at all since I stopped using the Microwave. My use of medication (Apriso) is also tapering off. I have a post where I will keep giving a monthly update on my improvement since I stopped using a Microwave.
Ask your wife to give it a try, as she may not have to use additional medication.
