Defective (?) Humira (cf) Pens

Wed, June 05, 2019 9:02 AM

I recently switched to the Humira (cf) pens after more than five years of bi-weekly use of the regular Humira auto-injection pens.  I've noticed that the needle and spring rattle around after removing cap #1 on the citrate free version of the pens.  I don't recall that occuring on the original Humira pens.

I reported the concern to AbbVie's Product QA team.

  • For those that have the orginial Humira pen: after you remove cap #1, does the needle move around and the spring sound loose?
  • For those that have the Humira (cf) pen: same question; what is the lot number and expiration date?
My lot # is 1107876 and exp date is Aug2020.

We have had 4 out of 6 of the new (CF) pens fail to inject properly. Most of the medication runs out of the injection site and a welt is raised (like you would see in a sub-cutaneous injection).

We also used the old pens for YEARS and never once had this issue (so it is NOT an issue of training).  Our conclusion is that the pens are defective and the needle is not penetrating to the proper depth.

Of course, when we call the Humira line, they act like they have never heard of this before, but we think the new version of the pen has major quality control issues. PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
