My son has crohns disease and recently had a small bowel resection back in April. He some post op infection complications-abscess. His recent blood work and CT scan indicates that all the infection is gone. Does anyone have any experience with Stelara or starting a biologic after surgery and post op complications?

I am interested to know if your son has started the Stelara and his experience with the medication.

Hello:
I have experience with Remicade, Humira and Stelara. In fact, I have taken my last shot this month of Stelara. I don't plan to take anymore of these types of medications. For me, none of them worked. I've investigated these medications and for the most part they were developed for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriasis. These drugs are in actuality chemo therapy drugs. I have Crohn's disease and they have a new medication out there made specifically for Chrohn's and Ulcerative Colitis called Entyvio. The side-effects, however, can be debilitating.
Please read up on these medications. Not just the ads online encouraging the use of their medications. Go to www.pubmed.com and search for articles concerning the success rate of these drugs. The articles are actually written by groups of doctors doing studies on the efficacy of these medications. The news isn't very good.
I did take the medications in the hope of some kind of remission, but, as yet, have not been in remission. I was diagnosed when I was 14.
Do what you think is best for your son. Perhaps Stelara will help him.
I wish all the best for your son and for you in love and care for him.
