Can allergy shots worsen UC symptoms?

Wed, July 17, 2019 2:09 PM

Hi everyone--I'm brand new to the forums, and looking to connect with other people who deal with good 'ole Uncle Chuckle (my wry nickname for colitis, which I've had for about 16 years).

I have always had terrible seasonal allergies, and in May started immunotherapy allergy shots (antigens). I'm in the second level up from the starter shots, which means there are higher levels of my personal allergens in each shot. And I'm wondering if that could be a contributor to the flare I'm dealing with now.

I haven't ever kept charts of symptoms by date, which I know I should have been doing--to be honest, I can't bear to track it because I don't want to see how often I am really sick. I stick with constant awareness and go from there, but that means I can't say, "Oh! My symptoms got worse when I started the next level of allergy shots," or "Oh, I've been sick since way before the allergy shots."

My flares are often around the winter holidays (stress and bad memories to battle), but always flare again around April--I think, now, because that's the start of allergy season. So that's why I wonder if the shots are throwing my immune system some extra curve balls.

I really appreciate hearing from anyone who has had allergy shots at all, and whether they experienced any difference in their UC or Crohn's symptoms during therapy, and later.

Thanks, and nice to meet you!

In addition to the age and size considerations, it is important to make sure that the car seat is correctly installed and fits the vehicle correctly. The car seat should be securely anchored and not move more than one inch from side to side. If the car seat does not fit properly, it may cause injury in the event of an accident. The AAP also recommends that all children remain in a booster seat until they are 4-foot-9 and 8-12 years old. Christopher

I was diagnosed with crohns several years ago and have taken allergy shots for 9 years. I haven’t noticed a correlation between my flares and the shots. At one time I was actually getting the shots three times per week. Even when I’m started on a new vial, I have not noticed any digestive issues.
