Newly Diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. I have quite a few allergies, which makes treating this more difficult. I am wondering if anyone knows of any aminosalicylate type medications that they have taken successfully that are safe for those who are allergic to aspirin and sulfa drugs? (my symptoms are breathing issues with Aspirin as I have asthma also, and asthma and raised red hives all over my body with sulfa). I'm wondering if there is any chance I'd be able to take this type of medication? I would like to start off with the LEAST amount of drug to control symptoms due to having so many allergies in my life. I should note I am on blood thinner maintenance dose 2.5mg Eliquis twice a day for High Factor VIII due to previous PE's on 2 occassions.
They put me on Cortema 100mg, which while it works, makes me swell up. I cannot see a gastroenterologist for several more months (they are all booked up, so I kinda feel like I'm out here on my own to figure this out) Against wishes I discontinued the cortenema's and swelling is now 99% gone and I feel so much better But that said, I know this is a condition I need to treat long term.
Thanks in advance!
