Uceris experience

Tue, March 12, 2013 11:51 AM

week 3 on Uceris.  I will never use prednisone again..I have frequent flares and prednisone is slowly killing me.  My GI started me on Uceris and so far I have had 0 side effects and I feel much better already.  I think the drug is expensive but thankfully I have Ins and my co-pay was $25.
Its still early but so far I recommend it for anyone who hates pred.

My daughter had the Lactulose Hydrogen Breath Test and tested positive for bacteria overgrowth. (She was diagnosed with UC 6 years ago and is currently taking 4 Lialda, 2 Florastor, and 2 Ultimate Flora Critical Care 50 Billion)  Her IBD specialist gave her a Rx of Xifaxan which is a brand new antibiotic but her insurance has to have a prior authorization for that one (it's almost $800) and she was also given an Rx for Uceris.  Her insurance will cover it for 1/2 off so her portion would be $542.80.  I called the Uceris number hoping she could get it for $25 but with her insurance they would only give her $100 off.  So instead she has to take prednisone and and antibiotic called Doxycycline Hyclate 100 mg 2 times per day.  Her IBD specialist said that Xifaxan and Uceris are brand new drugs.  Maybe that's why they are so high.  It breaks my heart that there are better meds with lower side effects out there but the price is outrageous :(

Still working for me after 2.5 months.  I am just about to come off.

I highly recommend this drug over Prednisone

it cost me 150 a month, not cheap but worth every penny

I asked my Doctor about Uceris after I looked it up on the internet and their web page stated that MOST people with commercial health insurance would only have to pay $25 for their prescription.  My doctor approved it and called it in.  My pharmacy called me this morning as they had to order the drug (they did not have a supply of it), and told me that, even with my insurance the cost would be $500!  The pharmacist said if I had no insurance it would be $1500!  I would love to take it, but I can't afford to pay $500 per month for one drug.  Are you getting any kind of cost break?

Hi,
Please keep us posted. I heard this is a new drug on the market. I would love to know the effects and if it similar to Asacol or Lialda? Too bad for me, I had my bowel removed on November 2012 and so far I feel wonderful. I am just wondering if I gave up so soon.

I'm also going into week 3 of uceris to get over a flare - its helped a bit but still having bad symptoms. Curious if you are having a similar experience, is it taking much longer than prednisone to work? I'm not sure how long to give it before looking for something stronger....
